The article examines the volunteer movement as a direction of work of educators with different categories of the population, the possibility of self-realisation of teachers and students on a voluntary basis in the service of civil society. The phenomenon of the concept of “volunteering” in the educational space of a higher education institution is defined, and the types of volunteer activities are listed.
The author outlines the assertion that higher education students should develop professional competencies in various areas of professional training in psychology, sociology, pedagogy, medicine, law, etc. in order to carry out volunteer activities. Teacher volunteering supports and provides pedagogical, psychological, and physical assistance to those in need (IDP families, the poor, and members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) through various forms of work, including charity events, projects, etc.
Educational volunteering, which relies on the vitality and energy of volunteers – educators, scientists, young Ukrainian intellectuals – has a powerful potential to develop the activity and self-awareness of participating volunteers to make the necessary changes in society.
At present, volunteering, its role, and importance for the formation of student youth needs to be developed in a legal and effective field, requires comprehensive support and social awareness in higher education institutions.
The article provides examples of forms of volunteer activity of teachers of Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy, which were practically implemented in cooperation between teachers and students during the Russian-Ukrainian war.
