Openness to Experience is considered as an important component of creative potential, sometimes it is
called a core of creative personality. In broad sense, the
concept of Openness to Experience reflects the tendency
to the active perceptive and cognitive exploration of the
world and includes cognitive, emotional, and motivational components. Openness score is related to Intellect
scores, especially to crystallized intelligence and less to
fluid one. Nevertheless, Openness presents much broader
trait. Openness to Experience has six facets, which are
not always correlated and are related to different creative
areas: openness to action, openness to feeling, openness
to values, openness to ideas, openness to aesthetics, and
openness to imagination. Openness to ideas is the facet
that is most closely related to the Intellect due to its cognitive component.
Despite Openness score is to the large extent inherited, there is still a potential for openness development.
Particularly, there are evidences that constant participating in activities or programs that are related to the novel
situations and cognitive stimulation results in increasing
of Openness. Nevertheless, effects of these types of activities are depended on primary score of Openness, and in
some cases extremely novel situations may result in decreasing of Openness for close individuals. Thus, openness development programs should be planned in a stepwise manner in order to avoid activation of defensive
mechanisms and, as a result, decreasing of openness. We
suppose that multidisciplinary required-based learning
environment created in the FUTURUM Children Academy (based on the Minor Academy of Science of Ukraine)
may be effective in openness development, however, the
specific effects of this program should be investigated.
The future research should provide a detailed analysis
of specific activities related to increasing openness to experience, and special training program should be developed.
