STEM-lessons as an Innovative Technology of Teaching Biology in 6th Grade

STEM-education takes a leading place among pedagogical innovations of the 21st Century, which allows training competitive specialists capable of generating innovative ideas and solving applied problems in innovative sectors of the economy. The main task of STEM-lessons is the formation of key competencies in students, which will provide them with the opportunity to apply scientifc, mathematical, technical and engineering knowledge in practice to solve complex life and professional problems.
At the current stage of the development of Science education, teachers are faced with the task of actively introducing STEM-technologies into the teaching of Biology, frst of all, during integrated lessons, in which interdisciplinary connections are established, aimed at forming a holistic systemic materialistic worldview of students.
The article presents the author's developments of STEM-lessons from the 6th grade Biology course “Similarities and Differences of Plant and Animal Cells” and “The Role of Bacteria in Nature and Human Life”. It demonstrates clearly, that the use of gamifcation and integration with other subjects in the 6th grade contributes to the transformation of schoolchildren into experimenters, the identifcation of creative thinking and the effectiveness of education in students.
Therefore, conducting STEM-lessons in the 6th grade is an innovative approach to teaching Biology, as it makes it possible to integrate it with other subjects, educate students in soft skills, stimulate creative thinking, creative solving of the tasks, and also increase motivation to study of biology, which, in turn, contributes to the formation of competences and the achievement of program learning outcomes.
