Folklore expedition materials as a foundation for investigating ukrainian singing practices in arts education

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the problem of formation of folklore expedition materials and their value in the process of researching of Ukrainian singing in art education. Various means summarizing the practical experience of folklore recorders and leaders of creative collectives are considered handwritten and printed sheet music collections and diaries of field expeditions, audio and video recordings, web resources and internet platforms representing the folklore-expeditionary work of figures of the past and present. The search activity of the heads of folklore collectives in different regions of Ukraine was analyzed. A description of the author's experience in creating the "Museum of Ukrainian Song" exhibition, conducting festivals of traditional culture, and art projects aimed at preserving and popularizing Ukrainian singing among modern youth is carried out.

The problem of studying the practice of Ukrainian singing in art education is updated every year in connection with the decrease in the number of authentic carriers of the song tradition. One of the possible options for preserving samples of Ukrainian singing is folklore-expeditionary work, during which the peculiarities of group and solo singing, information about performers, repertoire and folk knowledge are recorded. In the modern practice of Ukrainian singing, the leaders of folklore groups rely on their own expeditionary experience, as well as archives of folk music that was recorded earlier. The use of folklore-expedition materials in the process of teaching Ukrainian singing is important for the formation of vocal culture, national consciousness and worldview of young bearers of folk tradition – students of art education in Ukraine.

Folkloric and expeditionary materials, which replenish the stock archives of Ukrainian song culture, are the basis for researching the practice of Ukrainian singing in art education. Within the scope of the proposed article, it was possible to summarize the content and tasks, the significance of folklore-expedition materials in the process of forming the creative personalities of students and schoolchildren; the practical experience of folklore collectives of different regions of Ukraine was analyzed; the significance of modern methods of recording folklore through the creation of videos about speakers of Ukrainian singing is emphasized
