Abstract

The article summarizes the results of a study on the impact of war on participants in the educational process, conducted by the Institute of the Gifted Child of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine in October 2022. The study aimed to identify the current needs of participants in the educational process regarding the organization of learning during the state of war. It explored the specific implementation of psychological defense mechanisms among the respondents and assessed their perspective over time as participants in the educational process. The study also described the results of researching tolerance for uncertainty.

Martial law is a difficult and traumatic period for any society, especially for children. Under such conditions, the psychological well-being of participants in the educational process may be at risk. At the same time, there are resources and factors contributing to their support and strengthening. Our research proves the importance of social and emotional support of students from their parents, friends, and teaching staff. Friendly emotional and practical support, the possibility of open communication and exchange of ideas contribute to the stabilization of the psychological state and maintenance of psychological well-being. It is important to develop tolerance for uncertainty and future time orientation among students. Students who demonstrate tolerance for uncertainty are better able to cope with the emotional difficulties and negative effects of martial law. Encouraging positive thinking, self-regulation and the development of personal strengths contributes to strengthening the resilience of students and their psychological well-being.

The results of the study emphasize the importance of developing resilience, supporting the psychological well-being of teachers and parents.
