Abstract

In the presented material, the author studies the methodological support for the training of applicants for the first (bachelor’s) level of education in the field of knowledge 05 Social and Behavioural Sciences, speciality 053 Psychology. Recently, information on the theory and practice of psychological science has been growing rapidly, which leads to the updating of textbooks on this issue.

The reviewed textbook has a logical structure. The introduction states the purpose and main objectives of the course; the competences of the educational and professional program “Psychology” are defined.

The next section contains lecture notes on the following topics: professional activity of a psychologist; fundamental and applied psychology; scientific directions and approaches in psychology; types of psychological work; methodological foundations of psychological cognition; professional ethics of practical psychologists; psychological counselling; psychological diagnostics; training technologies in the work of a psychologist; psychotherapy and psychocorrection; prevention of professional deformations; ways of professional growth of a psychologist. The theoretical information of each lecture is revealed in depth and, at the same time, concisely. Each lecture contains questions for self-testing of students’ knowledge; recommended literature,  including English-language literature. This enables students to deepen their knowledge and check the quality of their learning on their own.

For each topic, practical tasks have been developed that include methods that are most important in the work of a future psychologist. By completing them, students gradually move on to more complex tasks. In this way, they form an idea of the work of a psychologist in various organisations and learn about the types of psychological practice: psychodiagnostics, counselling, psychotherapy, psychocorrection, training, preventive work, etc.

The last section of the manual is the appendices. The appendices contain full-text diagnostic methods, regulations and documents, and the psychologist's code of ethics, which allows students to use these materials to prepare for practical classes.

The textbook is intended for students and teachers of psychological faculties, university departments, practical psychologists and teachers, social workers, and a wide range of readers interested in psychology and psychological practice.

The author notes that the textbook submitted for review is a structurally logical, complete work that meets the requirements for this type of publication and can be recommended for publication.
