GIFTEDNESS OF STUDENTS AND THE CHOICE OF A SPECIALIZED EDUCATIONAL TRACK IN LYCEUM

The article examines the problem of the interrelation between students’ giftedness and their choice of study profile. The relevance of this problem is determined by the adoption of new regulatory educational documents and the search for corresponding new pedagogical conditions that would ensure a motivated choice of future educational and professional trajectory. A theoretical analysis of publications on the problem under study was carried out. Three stages of choice that an educational seeker must make have been identified, and corresponding measures are proposed to ensure that this choice aligns with personal giftedness and takes into account the needs of the current state of society.
The need of society for gifted individuals who are able to adapt to modern conditions and realize their potential necessitates the modernization of existing approaches and the search for new ones in the psycho-pedagogical support for diagnosing giftedness for the selection of a lyceum study profile. These changes are relevant both for the psychological service (testing and adaptation of current diagnostic methods and development of new ones; development of training programs; conducting vocational consultations, imitative professional tryouts, industrial practices) and for teaching staff and the profile education system in general.
To solve the problem of the interrelation between students' giftedness and their choice of study profile, the following pedagogical conditions must be implemented:
– Career guidance and psychological support throughout gymnasium and lyceum education;
– A diagnostic tool for identifying intellectual, creative, and academic giftedness, aptitudes, and abilities of educational seekers for continuing studies in academic or vocational directions;
– A didactic system for the adaptation cycle of profile education in academic lyceums for the selection of the future study profile and the elective educational component outside of the chosen profile.
