Abstract

The article highlights the PISA-2022 results for Ukrainian schoolchildren. It is emphasized that the results in all components of the research must be improved. In 2018, Ukraine lagged behind the OECD countries by 22 points in reading - and these were good results. Now this gap has grown to 48 points, which is already critical.

It is noted that the long- term distance education format affected the results of all countries. But we are unique in that our educational system survived and was able to conduct such a large- scale educational study during the war.

It is emphasized that the use of PIRLS conscious reading technology can be a good means of improving the quality of Ukrainian education.

PIRLS as an international study of the quality of reading and comprehension of text, makes it possible to compare the level and quality of reading and comprehension of text by primary school students in different countries of the world, as well as to identify differences in national education systems. Research is conducted cyclically – once every five years, and to date such research has been conducted five times: in 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021.

Expert advice on how to avoid the danger of the Internet has been developed, and the specifics of using IT blocking tools have been highlighted. Parents are advised to implement a family tradition: read with the child before bed. An argument in favor of reading books are facts from the lives of famous IT (information technology) people. In particular, Steve Jobs, a man who made a huge contribution to the development of technology, knows more about its dangers. In particular, when he was in charge of Apple, he forbade his children to sit too long with iPads and iPhones. In general, most tech CEOs and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs limit the amount of time kids spend in front of screens, whether it's computers, smartphones, or tablets. In the Jobs family, there was even a ban on the use of gadgets at night and on weekends. As a result, his children grew up independent of the Internet. Other gurus from the world of technology act in a similar way. Are we adults, parents, experts ready for such restrictions?
