Methodological Design of a History Lesson on the Topic: “The Mongol Invasion of Ukrainian Lands”

This methodological guide presents a history lesson
for 7th-grade students of the New Ukrainian School on
the topic “The Mongol Invasion of Ukrainian Lands”. It
outlines the author's approach to structuring the lesson
and organizing its content, with practical suggestions
on integrating general didactic methods with interactive
teaching strategies.
A distinctive feature of the lesson is the use of a conceptlegend
– #HISTORY#CAT# – a fictional assistant that
accompanies students throughout the learning process.
This character offers historical “bonuses” and supports
comprehension of the material in an engaging way.
The lesson package includes didactic materials, a
multimedia presentation, and a mini-guide titled “The
History Enthusiast’s Worksheet”. All components are
adaptable for face-to-face, blended, or distance learning
formats. Emphasis is placed on a competency-based
approach, interdisciplinary integration, activity-based
learning, and fostering students’ creative potential.
In addition, the lesson incorporates activities aimed
at developing emotional and ethical intelligence and
combines historical content with origami (paper folding)
techniques to enhance engagement.
The innovative nature of this development lies in its
attempt to demonstrate how history lessons on Ukrainian
topics can be both motivating and captivating, aligning
with the principles of the New Ukrainian School. This
is achieved through interdisciplinary connections and
the use of research-oriented methodologies that nurture
students' emotional and ethical awareness.
The practical value of this work is linked to the need for
competency-based learning tools within the educational
process. It supports the implementation of integrative
interdisciplinary competencies and contributes to the
creation of an effective methodological framework for
delivering motivational history lessons, especially in the
face of contemporary educational challenges.
It is also important to note the potential use of these
materials by both teachers and students as a resource to
help mitigate and address learning losses
