Development of EmotionalIntelligence in Future Music Teachers in China

The article clarifes t he d efnition of ‘emotional intelligence’ and its components (self- awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship building skills, ability to make responsible decisions); it is substantiated that social and emotional skills are extremely important for a future music teacher, as they determine how friendly and favourable the atmosphere in the classroom and in the team will be; the possible ways of its improvement for all participants of the educational process are characterised, in particular, it is necessary to introduce the development of EI into the practice of training future teachers and retraining of working teachers, and subsequently for all participants of the educational process, this may include the introduction of courses that will form teachers’ social and emotional abilities; in the process of organising such courses, it is necessary to take into account their multi-level and sequential nature, but undoubtedly their introduction should be started in colleges that train future teachers; at higher education levels, it is advisable to introduce both individual and group classes on EI development, in addition to preparing teachers to use tools for social and emotional learning of students, it is necessary to strengthen interaction and communication between all participants in the educational process, to join various social practices, trainings, projects, volunteer activities - this will allow to know oneself and children in different situations even deeper, to improve one’s own social and emotional skills, which will help to create a harmonious atmosphere, to optimise methods and techniques of childrearing; the necessity of developing the emotional intelligence of the future is substantiated.
