Abstract

The article provides one of the official interpretations of the concept of STEAM, and indicates the need to use this direction in education. The results of some international studies on STEM/STEAM issues are presented, which prove the effectiveness of its implementation in some regions of the world. The results of the research of the gifted support department of the Institute of the Gifted Child of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine as part of the scientific study "Forms and methods of teaching gifted students in the conditions of the implementation of STEM/STEAM-education in institutions of specialized scientific education" are presented. The results of the study determine the community's interest in the implementation of STEM/STEAM in Ukraine. The study also identified some directions in which implementation can take place, namely: adaptation of foreign experience and the possibility of involving different groups of children in STEM/STEAM education.

A survey of Ukrainian educators was conducted to determine the effectiveness of forms and methods of teaching in the conditions of implementing STEM/STEAM education in specialized educational institutions of a scientific orientation. One of the tasks of the survey was to determine which areas of knowledge specialists are interested in implementing STEM/STEAM education in Ukraine. The results obtained revealed the interest of a much wider audience of specialists in various fields in the STEM/STEAM direction in education. There was also a need to find out the readiness of educators to implement STEM/STEAM in the Ukrainian educational space. At the same time, it was necessary to establish obstacles to the effective use of the STEM/STEAM approach in the education of specialists in various fields. It was undoubtedly necessary to establish the issue of adapting foreign experience and the effectiveness of its use in the education system.

An urgent issue for scientific research is establishing age limits favorable for involving children in STEM/STEAM activities. This issue interested researchers in several aspects that were implemented in the process of surveying educators.
